The next African Cup of Nations will be played from Friday January 15 to Sunday February 14, 2021 and not in June – July as originally scheduled.
Cameroon will host the African Cup of Nations from January 15 to February 14, 2021, sources reveal. It is certainly true that this date is not official, but the President of the African Football Confederation AHMAD AHMAD, announced on December 23, 2019, a sliding date, because of the meteorological conditions of Cameroon. The cut which was to be contested between June and July, during the rainy seasons, was postponed to January and February, dry season.
In my opinion, it is not possible, due to the climatic conditions in Cameroon, to organize the African Cup of Nations in June / July. Clearly, so we have to make a decision on the date. The change is dictated by the different climatic conditions of the continent. I do not know why the media forgot that this was discussed in detail at the CAF symposium in 2017 in Morocco,
said the CAF President on Insideworldfootball.
Aside from the inadequate weather conditions, it must be recognized that CAF is indirectly suffering from the establishment by FIFA of the new format of the Club World Cup which is supposed to take place during the same period as the CAN in Cameroon.
As a reminder, the decision to move the CAN from January to June, came in the sense of guaranteeing the presence of all the great African footballers playing on the old continent and better selling this event. Bringing it back at the start of the year will no doubt spark new controversies.
Here are the countries that will take part in this great football mass
Namibia – Chad (Group A)
Malawi- South Sudan (Group B)
Burkina Faso – Uganda (Group B)
Sudan – Sao Tome and Principe (Group C)
Angola – Gambia (Group D)
RCA- Burundi (Group E):
Cameroon – Cape Verde (Group F)
Guinea Bissau – Eswatini (Group I)
Senegal – Congo (Group I)
Nigeria – Benin (Group L)
Sierra Leone – Lesotho (Group L)
