Cameroonian singer, Lady Ponce has taken to her social media handle to reveal that she received a bill from SONACAM, asking her to pay 400,000frs for airing Cameroon songs in her snack.
The artiste complains bitterly of how this government body has been robbing her for years and had seldom given her significant royalties as a superstar Cameroonian artist but is billing her up to 400,000frs for copyright.
Taking to her Facebook page, she said:
“Cameroonian National Society of Musical Art abbreviated, Sonacam ,which has been robbing me for years and has rarely or never ever given me my royalties has come to leave a bill of 400,000 FCFA ,in relation to the royalties within my complex “planet Ponce”.
“Am I hallucinating or is this witchcraft? It is only my music that is distilled in my complex all day long and the artists I invite for the promotion of culture are paid at my expense.
“For years, you have been sitting on the millions you owe me in terms of royalties and I have not claimed a dime.
“This year, during the redistribution of royalties, once again, I didn’t appeared anywhere on your lists.
“While my works are distilled in all the corners of the national territory and beyond.
“You take pleasure in destroying the creators of works of the spirit and their talents.
“You enjoy artists and their miseries, you find a particular delight in it, no limits, no humanity.
“In spite of everything, for the promotion of Cameroonian and African culture, as an artist in the first place and an entrepreneur with my own means, the construction of the Planet PONCE complex was possible and helps young Cameroonians to live decently and to fight against unemployment.
“But unfortunately, you don’t care about that, everything for you and nothing for the others.
“Have I received any dime from Sonacam that contributed to the construction of my Planet Ponce complex?expenses that would have come from my royalties?never.
“Did the Ministry of Arts and Culture or any other institution help me? Not at all
“No cultural policy, no valorisation of the Cameroonian artist as elsewhere. And you dare to put your feet inside my cultural establishment.
I dare to believe that the sorcerer’s who wrote this rag of a receipt to claim money from me are well seated, also to pay me all the royalties that you owe me for years.
“So deduct what you want you dirty vultures.
Because my team and I, will take the calculator for the claim of my royalties and I assure you the bill will really be salty.
Silence and moderation are not signs of weakness.”
